Reverend Alonzo Thomas

Rev. Alonzo Lee Thomas, 78, Raytown, MO passed away Oct. 2, 2011. Services will be at 10 am, Thursday, Oct. 6 at the New Life Assembly Church, 801 S.W. First St., Oak Grove, MO 64075; interment at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Wed. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 am, Sat., Oct. 8 at Ozark Bethel Chapel in Roach, MO. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to The American Cancer Society Kansas City Chapter, 1100 Pennsylvania Ave., Kansas City MO 64105.
Alonzo was born Feb. 8, 1933 in Climax Springs, MO. He graduated from Windsor (MO) High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. His life was the church and he loved being a pastor. He pastored churches in Coffeyville, KS; Erie, KS; DeQueen, AR; Kansas City, KS; followed by ten years at Blue Ridge Assembly of God in Kansas City, MO and the past three years at Ozark Bethel Chapel in Roach, MO. He was also a licensed auctioneer who enjoyed frequenting estate sales and fishing in the Ozarks.
He was preceded in death by sister Lenna Flippin, brother Harland Thomas, sister Virgie Husong, sister Bessie Folsom, sister Nadine Gary, brother Roy Thomas, brother Floyd Thomas and sister Naomi Walker. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-eight years Mae Thomas, of the home; daughters Brenda Thomas Vanderhoofven, Livermore, CA; Kathy Thomas, Independence, MO; sister Jean Grundy and husband Ronald, Pine Bluff, AR; and grandson Grant Vanderhoofven, Livermore, CA.
