Arlene Verna Thompson, 74, of Grain Valley, MO passed away Friday, January 22, 2010 at her daughter’s home in Grain Valley. Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 PM on Monday, January 25 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence. The service will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday at the chapel with burial at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Verna was born on August 7, 1935 in Kansas City, MO to Ed and Evelyn (Mason) Zumwalt. She married Fred Thompson in 1953 and together purchased Thompson Auto Parts, owning from 1963-1979. Verna was also employed by The Jones Store for more than 20 years. Verna was an avid shopper and enjoyed jet skiing, fishing, and square dancing. She loved her family and will be missed for her personable and generous nature. Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Thompson, and grandson, Jeffrey Wiggans. She is survived by her daughter Jackie and husband Ron Wiggans; two sons, Jim and wife Stacy Thompson, and Joe and wife Linda Thompson; grandchildren, Jillian Wiggans Carter and husband DaShaun Carter, Julie Wiggans Williams and husband Bret Williams, and Devon, Stephanie, Andrea, Chris, and Aaron Thompson; and lifetime friend, Carrie Turner.
