Cecil E. Thompson, 93, of Independence, MO passed away Sunday, February 13, 2011 at St. Mary's Manor in Blue Springs, MO. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St., Independence, MO. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. Cecil was born June 21, 1917 in Cameron, MO the son of Arthur and Elva Jane Thompson. Cecil was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jane Thompson. Cecil and Margaret were married in 1945. They lived most of their life in Independence, MO. They also enjoyed spending time at their lake home in the Lake of the Ozarks. Cecil and Margaret were members of the First United Methodist Church in Independence, MO. Cecil was a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. Cecil was a member of the Masonic Lodge Swope Park. Cecil loved to travel, spend time at the lake, and enjoyed being with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Cecil is survived by his son Gary Thompson. He is also survived by one sister Alta Heath. Cecil was preceded in death by two sisters, Awilda Pettus and Marie Hannsz and by two brothers William Ashley Thompson and Vincent Thompson. He is also survived by three grandsons.
