Everett Thompson, 85, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Rosewood Health Center. Everett was born July 24, 1923 in Hutchinson, KS to Arthur and Bertha (Asher) Thompson. He graduated from William Chrisman High School and then joined the U.S. Army where he served during World War II. On August 27, 1948 he married Leah Marie Lesh and together raised three children. Everett worked as a pipe fitter for Standard Oil for 31 years prior to his retirement in 1986. He enjoyed gardening, painting, woodcarving, fishing, making home movies, and flying radio-controlled airplanes. Everett also enjoyed photography. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Everett is survived by his wife of 60 years, Leah Thompson; children: Steve Thompson and wife Bonnie, Leonard Thompson and wife Teresa, and Sharon Thompson-Gerlt; grandchildren: Scott Thompson, Jennifer Archambeault and husband Paul, and Ian Thompson; and great-grandchildren: Makayla, Katherine, and Kelly Archambeault. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Velma Pinson, Virgil Thompson, Lester Thompson, Norma Thompson, Letha Little, and Frederick Thompson.
A visitation will be from 1-2:00 PM Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., and services will begin at 2:00 PM; entombment at Mound Grove Cemetery Mausoleum.
