Joseph Cheney "J.C." Thompson

March 4, 1916 — February 16, 2005

Joseph Cheney "J.C. Thompson, 88, of Independence, MO passed away on February 16, 2005 at the Independence Regional Health Center. A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 18, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. The service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel with burial at Mound Grove Cemetery. J.C. was born on March 4, 1916 in Independence, MO to George and Samantha Thompson. He lived all 88 years in the home he was born in, which was purchased by his grandfather, Levi Cheney. J.C. worked for over 40 years at the Standard Oil Company, while also maintaining a Kansas City Star paper route in the Independence and Sugar Creek area. He was a lifetime member of the Community of Christ, serving the Stone Church Congregation. He held the priesthood office of Elder. J.C. never complained about a thing. His humor and personality made it easy for all who knew him to consider him a friend. This positive attitude and constant smile will always be missed. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Josie Thompson; sister-in-law, Eula Stokan; and many nieces and nephews. Contributions may be made to the Stone Church Endowment Fund.
