William Thompson

William F. “Bill” Thompson, 86, Independence, MO passed away May 1, 2009. Graveside services will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 �" 8 pm, Monday at Carson-Speaks Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to The Community Services League, 300 W. Maple Ave., Independence, MO 64050.
Bill was born Aug. 13, 1922 in Ft. Collins, CO to Lloyd E. Thompson and Frances Aimee (Ferguson) Thompson. He grew up in Medicine Bow, WY and then Independence. He was a member of the RLDS church. He served as a U.S. Navy Seabee during WW II where he was at Iwo Jima. He later served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He worked at the Ford Claycomo plant for thirty years and was a member of UAW Local #249. Bill enjoyed model railroading, and collected antique toy trucks, tractors and marbles.
Bill was preceded in death by a sister Loydea V. Harvey. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years Eleanor Thompson, of the home; sons Thomas L. Thompson and wife Melissa, Lee’s Summit, MO; Terry W. Thompson, Independence, MO; brother Wayne N. Thompson, Palm Springs, CA; grandchildren Matthew W. Thompson, Eureka, KS; Aaron J. Thompson; Sarah E. Thompson, both of Lee’s Summit, MO; Tyler J. Thompson, Independence, MO; and two great-grandchildren.
