It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Timothy Lenn Mallett, affectionately known to all as Tim. Born on December 2, 1954, in Independence, Missouri, Tim departed this world on October 30, 2024, in his beloved hometown, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering spirit.
Tim dedicated many years of his life to General Motors, where he began his career as a painter. His commitment to excellence continued into his retirement as he transitioned into maintenance for the same esteemed company. A proud advocate for American-made products, Tim poured his heart into his work, embodying the values of quality and craftsmanship that General Motors represented. An avid learner, Tim never ceased to expand his knowledge. He graduated from Truman High School and pursued various courses throughout his life, delving into subjects such as small engine repair and constitutional law, embarking on the study of Hebrew, and even teaching himself how to play the piano after defeating a brain tumor—each endeavor illustrating his lifelong commitment to education. In the tapestry of life, Tim was a man of few words, yet each utterance held profound significance. Those fortunate enough to know him were acquainted with his wisdom, quick wit, and joyous spirit. He approached life with a happy-go-lucky attitude, never shying away from a spirited debate, all while maintaining an air of respect and objectivity.
Tim’s fortitude was remarkable; he faced life's challenges head-on and inspired many with his resilience. He was a fierce fighter, overcoming obstacles that would challenge the strongest of souls. With an unwavering commitment to his family, A man of great faith, Tim found fulfillment in sharing the word of God, often taking to social media to spread messages of hope and love. His daily devotion to studying the Bible reflected his deep spiritual connection, and his love for his country shone brightly, particularly during celebrations of the 4th of July, when he embraced his patriotism with pride. He was a talented chef, renowned for his peanut butter pies and decadent cheesecakes, which became a highlight at family gatherings, further endearing him to those lucky enough to savor his creations. Tim was a dedicated supporter of his Kansas City Chiefs, always eager to gather with family and friends to cheer on his team. With a cherished independence, he showed others what it meant to be resourceful, continually teaching those around him the value of self-sufficiency and the power of a positive mindset. Tim's proudest achievement was his daughter, Laurie, and his cherished grandsons. The bond he shared with Laurie was unique, full of camaraderie and joy. He treasured every moment spent with his family, relishing the laughter and love that filled their gatherings.
Tim's passing was preceded by his parents, Dorothy (Titus) and Clarence "Leon" Mallett; his step-mother, Mildred "Millie" Mallett; his brothers, Jeff Mallett and Terry Mallett; and his step-sister, Wanda Benefiel. He's legacy lives on through his best friend and daughter, Laurie Carpenter (Chris); his grandchildren, Braden Mallett-Jennings and Jaden Mallett-Jennings; his brother, Danny Mallett (Lynn); his sister-in-law, Celia Chilson, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and "adopted" daughters.
A visitation will be held at Grace Church in Independence, Missouri, on November 9, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. This will be followed by a funeral service at the same location, starting at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will immediately follow at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens in Independence, Missouri.
Following the burial, family and friends will meet back at Grace Church, at approximately, 1:30 to celebrate Tim’s life by breaking bread together, listening to his favorite music and telling stories about his life on earth. ALL are welcome to join. Tim’s last words about people gathering around him were, “If they want to come, let them.” The family would like to carry the invitation forward for the celebration.
