Earlene Tohill, 79, of Independence, MO passed away May 10, 2008. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 14, from 1-2:00 p.m. with a 2:00 p.m. memorial service to follow at the First Presbyterian Church of Independence. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Mount Washington Cemetery. Flowers should be sent to First Presbyterian Church of Independence and any contributions may be made to the Deacon’s Fund in care of the church. Earlene was born November 22, 1928 to Arthur and Marie Hamilton of Sugar Creek, MO. She was married July 30, 1949 to Clarence Alford Tohill, who preceded her in death in 1996. Earlene graduated from Northeast High School in 1945, and then attended Texas State University for Women. She worked at the IRS for 15 years, and volunteered at the Vaile Mansion in Independence where she enjoyed serving on the board. Earlene was also a member of First Presbyterian Church of Independence, MO for 40 years where she served as a Deacon. She enjoyed home decorating, traveling, painting her husband’s hand carved carousel animals, and her grandchildren. She is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl A. Marks of Lee’s Summit, MO and Susan M. Reeve of Knoxville, TN; five grandchildren, Alicia Zeller, Sara McBee, Josh, Chase and Renee Reeve; three great grandchildren, Izabella, Malina and William; and two sisters, Maxine Wilson and Doris Simpson, both of Blue Springs, MO. Earlene will be dearly missed.
