John Tormena, 95 of Independence, Mo passed away Monday, July 1, 2008 at Research Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 7, 2008 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4 to 6;00 p.m., Sunday evening at the Carson-Speaks chapel where there will be a rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. John was born March 4, 1913 in Farro, Italy the son of Petro and Maria (DeGaspari) Tormena and immigrated to the U.S. at an early age. He had worked as a truck driver for the S. Patti Construction Company for over 30 years before he retired in 1974. He later worked for Greater Kansas City Foundation retiring in 2005. He was a long-time member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and was a member of their Men’s Social Club. He enjoyed bowling and NASCAR. He was married to Helen (Jackson) she preceded him in death in 1999. Survivors include; Marge Johnston and her husband Dave, Barbara McDonough and her fiancé Don Hawley and Mary Kay Tormena; grandchildren, Ralph and Amy Brewer, Michelle and Lonnie Walthall and Annette Hamilton and 11 great grandchildren.
