Mr. Gregory A. Turner, 50, of Independence, MO, died Monday, September 21, 2009, at KU Medical Center. Gregory was born March 9, 1959 in St. Louis, MO to Ronald Merle Turner and Carol Jeanne Schlueter Turner. Greg and his family moved to Independence in 1965. He enjoyed school, biking and airplanes. Greg developed his musical talent, playing French horn and the piano. He graduated from Truman High School in 1977; and Graceland College in 1981, with a BS in chemistry. He received his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Iowa in 1987. He was employed at Midwest Research Institute since 1991 as a research chemist. Greg married Marcianna Kay Lewis in 1984. Into the family was born Joshua Ryan Turner and Stephanie Rachelle Turner. Greg is a member of the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of latter Day Saints. He was active in the church, teaching, preaching, counseling, assisting with youth camps, and being a counselor to the Presiding Bishop. Greg is survived by his loving wife, Marci; their two children, Joshua and Stephanie, of Independence, MO; parents, Ronald and Carol Turner, of Independence, MO; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Lavon Dennis, of Lansing, MI; niece and nephew, Marlia and Quinton Dennis, of Lansing, MI; grandmother, Mary Ellen Scott of Independence, MO; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial visitation will be held from 5-8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25, at the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints-Gathering Place, 2820 S. 291 Hwy Outer Rd, Independence, MO. Memorial service to be held on Saturday, September 26, at 11:00 a.m. at the Gathering Place. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
