Mary Julia Turner, 98 years young, traveled into the Lord’s arms on Saturday, February 20, 2010. An Independence resident for 80 years she was born in McCormick, KS on July 10, 1911. An only child, she spent her young years on a farm. Later she would settle in Independence, MO and marry Jake Turner who predeceased her in 1991. They had one son James L. Turner who resides in Los Angeles, CA. Mary inspired everyone around her with her quick wit, infectious smile and her determination for life. Everyone who knew her was touched in some way by this remarkable lady. She had traveled extensively and was very proud that she had visited every state in the U.S. and every province in Canada. She had read books on numerous subjects, and there wasn’t anything that didn’t interest her. She loved her home, the Englewood area, and her greatest desire was for the theater to re-open. She has chosen cremation and there will be a memorial service announced at a later date.
