Earl Wesley “Pete” Ulmer of Independence, MO died Sunday August 29, 2010 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Debra Ulmer in Paola, KS. Pete was born May 21, 1919 in Maryville, MO and graduated from Maryville High School. In 1942 Pete joined the Army Air Corps and served in England during World War II. While stationed in England, he met his bride Margaret Conroy who preceded him in death. Pete was also preceded in death by his sisters Violet Sutton and Dorothy Volgemott and his brother Dean Ulmer. He is survived by his sister Anna M. Lane of Stillwater OK, his son and daughter-in-law Robert and Debra Ulmer of Paola, KS. He has two grandchildren and three great grand children.
Pete was a Meat Cutter and retired from Kansas City Local 576. Pete served his community for 32 years as a member of the Inter-City Sugar Creek Optimist Club. He was the oldest active member of the club. During his 32 years he served as Director of the Board of Directors, Past Director, helped the club become an Honor Club and Distinguished Club, was named Optimist of the Year in 2008 and received the Governor’s Award in 2009.
Services will be at 11 am, Sat., Sept. 4, 2010 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO; cremation with private inurnment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum at a later date. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Instead of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Inter-City Sugar Creek Optimist Club 11600 E 24 Hwy, Sugar Creek, MO 64054 or the Miami County Cancer Foundation PO Box 86, Paola, KS 66071.
