Edith Umsted

Edith Else Umsted, 79, Independence, MO passed away Dec. 1, 2010. Services will be 2 pm, Sat., Dec. 4, 2010 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO; interment at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour before service time at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Susan G. Koman Foundation, Independence Animal Shelter or The Groves Hospice.
Edith was born Feb 15, 1931 in Birkenfeld, Germany. She had many hobbies including baking wedding cakes, making porcelain dolls, sewing and reading. She was a very social person who loved talking with, and helping people. She was a member of the Abiding Savior Lutheran Church until it closed in 2009. She was a member of the Sunshine Girls in Arizona and sang in the choir who performed at The Groves nursing home. She loved music, especially Andrea Bocelli.
Edith is survived by her loving husband of fifty-eight years Irwin “Jack” Umsted, of the home; daughters Patricia Roach and husband Bob, Houston, TX; Suzanne Graff and husband Hap, Lake Tapawingo, MO; Lori Umsted, Chandler, AZ; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
