Bernard Gene Vaughan, 76 of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday January 20, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Independence, MO. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Donations may be made to the Kansas City Hospice House. Bernard was born April 22, 1930 in Joplin, MO to Vernon and Vera Vaughan. He had graduated public schools and from Joplin Junior College in 1950. He moved to the Kansas City area in 1977. He had served as minister of music for several area churches and had also served as deacon and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Independence. He retired from Cook Paint in 1982 as Northern United States Division Manager. In 1986 he became a licensed nursing home administrator and had owned and operated various facilities in the Independence area, most recently The County House. He also served as a Board of Director member for the Missouri Residential Care Association. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, estate sales and his cat "Callie�. He was married to Patti Forsythe on March 5, 1951; she passed away on July 1, 1986. Survivors include; his fianc�, Norma Young Neill; a son, Robbie Vaughan and his wife Jill of Independence, MO; a daughter, Bernita Bush; a sister, Virginia Skelton of Overland Park, KS; 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed but not forgotten by all who knew him.
