William Thurman Vaughan, 83, Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013 after a year long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Bill was born December 27, 1929 in Independence, MO the son of Thurman William and Edna (Gross) Vaughan. He was a seven year U.S. Army Veteran having obtained the rank of MSG and served in the Korean War. Bill retired from Allis-Chalmers as a tool and die foreman. He was a 55 year member of Bethel Baptist Church, the VFW Local#1738 and the Masonic Lodge #324 for 54 years. Bill enjoyed woodworking, fishing, bird watching and was involved in numerous motorcycle clubs.
Survivors include his loving wife, Lorraine Vaughan of 62 years; daughters, Connie Rehm and husband Bill, Vicki Stewart and husband Les; son, Bill Vaughan; grandchildren, Sara Rehm, Andrea Clark and husband Robert, Catherine Bauman and husband Pete and Stephanie Vaughan; great grandson, William Bauman; three sisters; and two brothers. Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Norman Gail Francis and his parents.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501 W. Lexington St., Independence, MO 64052. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church.
