Gustaf Verhulst, 97 of Independence, MO passed away, Monday May 14, 2007 at the Liberty Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2007 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. There will be a rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Friday evening at the Carson-Speaks Chapel where with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. Gustaf was born September 1, 1909 in Roosbecka, Belgium to Alfonse and Alida (Libbrecht). He had worked as a maintenance man for Missouri Portland Concrete for over 39 years until he retired in 1973. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was married to Margaret Camerlynck in 1932, she passed away in 1996. Survivors include; 3 daughters, Mary L. Johnson and her husband Edward of Independence, MO, Elizabeth Wagers and her husband Cecil of Independence, MO and Patricia St. Martin and her husband Shelby of Overland Park, KS; 2 sisters, Mary DeHaemers of Independence, MO and Elizabeth Bowman of Gladstone, MO; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son Gustaf Verhulst, Jr., 2 brothers and a sister. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Liberty Hospital who worked so hard to comfort Gustaf in his final days.
