Verna Bea Gray (Verna H Gray), passed away at the age of 97. She was born in Burwell, NE, on October 10, 1926, daughter to Herman and Letha (Hopkins) Hollenbeck.
Verna was a trailblazing business woman who bought and managed real estate properties throughout southern Kansas City. She was a thrill-seeker, too. Whether it was trying out the latest water skiing trick or riding up and down the Rocky Mountains on a motorcycle, there was no adventure too daring for Verna. She was also an explorer. Her curiosity took her to the far reaches of the world. That passion for travel continues to live on today in her family. But, perhaps most of all, she had an unyieldingly and unrelentingly positive attitude, no matter what trials life sent onto her path. Those who know her well can still hear her joyful laugh echoing in their ears.
Verna leaves behind a legacy of love and adventure. She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Verna is survived by her grandson, Steve (Lindsay) Gray Jr.; great granddaughters, Lilah Gray, Elizabeth Gray; nieces, Sarah (Jim) Weiss, Letha Robinson; daughter in law, Cathy Arnold; as well as many other nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Merle Gray; son, Steve Gray Sr.; parents, Herman and Letha Hollenbeck.
Cremation is planned with a celebration of life to be held at a later date. May she rest in peace knowing she was cherished and adored by many.
