Virgie Barszczak, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 in Leawood, Kansas. Virgie was born on June 15, 1928, in Gibsonville, North Carolina, to Frank and Bette Tickle. Virgie grew up in North Carolina and returned there many times over the years. She moved to Kansas City where she met her husband John. They were married on March 12, 1953. She was a member of St. Ann & St. Mark Catholic Churches in Independence, MO. Virgie was a homemaker and raised four children. After John’s retirement she did a lot of traveling with him and their family. She enjoyed many trips to the Smokey Mountains, Florida, Arizona, Mexico, Las Vegas, Poland and many European countries. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was happiest when surrounded by her family. Virgie is preceded in death by her husband John of 65 years, her parents, six siblings, granddaughter, Cassandra Barszczak, and grandson, Michael Brown. She is survived by her daughters, Joan Howard and husband David, Rosemary Brown and husband Ed, sons John Barszczak and wife Kathy, Jim Barszczak and wife Vicki; grandchildren John Barszczak and wife Sarah, Jenny Brown and husband David, Andrea Meyer and husband Rodney, and Jessica Barszczak. Great grandchildren Lilly & Cora Barszczak, Nolan, Collin, Dotti & Della Brown, and Natalie & Eli Meyer. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Road, Independence, MO 64055 from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. with Mass of Christian burial immediately following at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mark’s Catholic Church or the American Heart Association.
