Virgil T. “Ted” Box

Virgil Theodore “Ted” Box, 92 of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at his residence.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel; visitation from 9:00 a.m., until service time, with interment at Mound Grove Cemetery.

Ted was born December 20, 1933 in Wheatland, MO to John and Ruby (Kain) Box and has been a long-time area resident.

He graduated from Northeast High School and attended Finlay Eugene College receiving a degree in engineering and computer science.

He worked for 30 years for Montgomery Ward managing data centers. He later worked for Sprint where he was a director. When he left the corporate world, he spent time doing his favorite things, working in the yard, teaching Bible classes, traveling (including numerous trips to Israel with his church group) and spoiling his little dog, Abbey.

Ted was married to Opal (Hazlett) for over 65 years before she passed in 2017. Survivors include; 3 children; daughter Brenda Morris and husband Dave of Lees Summit, MO, son Steve Box of Kansas City, MO, daughter Diane Mahoney and husband Mike of Lees Summit, MO, sister, Velma Keightley of Bolivar, MO, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren.

 He was preceded in death by a brother, Ed Box, and 2 grandchildren, Aaron Box and Jonathan Box.
