Virginia J. Moore, of Raytown, MO, died September 5, 2023, at her home in Raytown. She was born September 5, 1928, in Sedalia, MO, the daughter of Elves S. (Huck) Biery and Catherine Juanita Scott Biery.

She was educated in Sedalia. After graduating with the class of 1946, she became an operator and later a clerk for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. In 1948, Virginia won the Miss Sedalia contest and was the candidate for the “Queen of the American Royal” held in Kansas City. She became a member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church of Sedalia in January 1949. At St. Paul’s, on February 4, 1949, she was married by Rev. Walter F Strickert, to Ellis R. Moore. She became a full-time homemaker in 1951.

She was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sedalia. She was most currently a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, K.C. MO, where she was baptized. She was active in the Miriam society, caring committee, banner committee, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and altar guild. She has been a promoter, involved in numerous projects and received several recognitions from Heit’s Point Lutheran Ministries, located 12 miles S.E. of Lincoln, MO.

Survivors include five daughters, Cynthia Hein (Bob) Parkersburg, West Virginia; Teresa Wright (Jeff) Sedalia, MO; Diana Pumphrey (Gary) Blue Springs, MO; S. Jeannine Raveill (Pat) Blue Springs, MO; Lora Rodina (Kent) Springfield, MO; and one son E. Patrick Moore (Tina) Lawson, MO; plus eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren, a sister Helen F Walter of Sedalia, MO, two nieces, and two nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years Ellis Moore who passed August 15, 2019, her parents, and a sister Mary Catherine Biery of Sedalia.

Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 4900 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, Mo. Funeral services will follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Vicar Walt Little officiating. Graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery in Sedalia, MO.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Ascension Lutheran Church or Heit’s Point Lutheran Ministries. Arrangements made by Speaks Chapel, Independence, MO.
