George Merle Waggoner, 81 of Independence, MO passed away, Saturday, February 11, 2012 at his residence. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery near Urbana, MO. The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. George was born March 15, 1930 in Urbana, MO to George and Madge (Johnson) Waggoner and graduated from Urbana High School in 1948. He had worked as a salesman for over 31 years at the National Life and Accident later American General Life Insurance Company until he retired in 1992. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He was married to Aliena Bridges on February 10, 1951 and just celebrated 61 years of marriage. Survivors include; 3 sons, Donald Waggoner and wife Brenda of Atlanta, GA, David Waggoner of Baltimore, MD and Kevin Waggoner of Independence, MO; a sister, Ruth Edwards of Sedalia, MO; 2 brothers, Carl Waggoner and Paul Waggoner of Idaho Falls, ID; 4 grandchildren, Donald James, Jr., Dana Michelle, Jaret Neal and Robert and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Waggoner.
