On May 21, 2026, there was a great celebration in heaven when Jesus freed Wanda Mae (Tromblay) Peterie from her broken human bonds and reunited her with her beloved Kenny, son Dennis, and many other family and friends that went before her.
Born on May 9, 1941, Wanda was full of kindness, warmth and love that touched the hearts of all who met her. Despite her small stature, she had more energy than a dozen toddlers, and her smile could light up any room. Her life wasn’t always easy, but she was a fighter, overcame many obstacles, challenges, and heartbreaks through the years, and made friends wherever she went.
After raising her two boys into their teens, Wanda went back to school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her favorite memories from her nursing career was when she worked with the newborn babies at Research Hospital.
Wanda loved to travel, and she and Kenny took many trips during their 43-year marriage. They cruised to multiple ports in the Caribbean and Mexico, traversing the Panama Canal, and even crossing the equator to explore Brazil. There were also many summer trips across the country from Washington, DC, and Gettysburg to Disney World and even driving the 101 from Seattle down the west coast. But their favorite pastime after retirement was spending the occasional afternoon at the river boat playing the slots and eating great food. Luckily, they seemed to win as much (or more, according to Kenny) as they lost.
But family was Wanda’s greatest source of pride. She dearly loved her two boys, and was thrilled to acquire two new sons when she married Kenny. She loved watching their family grow to include three daughters-in-law, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. And as much as she enjoyed her nursing career, Wanda happily gave it up to become a full-time grandma when her first grandson was born.
Wanda is preceded in death by her husband Jerry Kenneth “Kenny” Peterie, her mother and step-father Raymond E. and Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Tromblay, her father Lester Ensign Benedict, brother Raymond Eugene “Gene” Tromblay, sister Marilyn L. (Tromblay) Sofia, and son Dennis James Mathewson. Many family and friends have been left behind to grieve her loss, including her sons Jack (Linda) Mathewson, Jerry (Kathie) Peterie, and Lennie (Kimberly) Peterie, grandsons Ryan (Jordan) Mathewson and Gaven (Paige) Peterie, granddaughters Nikki Peterie and Jaden (Jonathan) Tees, as well as her great-grandchildren Rose, Julian and baby boy Tees to be named at a later date.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Visitation begins at 9:00 a.m. with the memorial service at 10:00 a.m., and a reception with light lunch immediately following. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Freeman-Holsapple Cemetery in Collins, Missouri.
While flowers are appreciated, donations to the Alzheimer's Association in Wanda’s name is a great alternative.
