Alice Marie Ward, 84, of Independence, MO passed February 12, 2013 in Independence, MO surrounded by her loving family. A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 a.m. followed by a 10:00 a.m. service on Saturday, February 16, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Burial at Mound Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Ward was born October 26, 1928, in Independence, Missouri to Jesse M. and Emma Marie (Anderson) Hart. She was baptized a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the age of 8 at Walnut Park Church. Later she attended East Alton and Village Heights Community of Christ. She graduated from DeKalb Elementary, William Chrisman High School, and CMSU (Truman Campus). She retired from Hallmark Cards in 1989. She was preceded in death by her husband, Durwood Arnold Ward in June 2009; her parents; an infant sister Carroll Rosalie Hart; her brother, Charles M. Hart, great-granddaughter, Macey Lynn Owens, and brother-in-law Bill Hostetter. Mrs. Ward’s survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Lee and Ron Palmer, Lee’s Summit; Donna Kay and Ron Birdsall, Adrian, Michigan; and son and daughter-in-law Larry Arnold and Diane Ward, Independence; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law Lee and Margaret Hart, Independence; sister-in-law Alice Hostetter, Blue Springs, Missouri; sister-in-law Imogene Hart, Kansas City. Her family would like to thank Dr. Larry Rosen, MD, Centerpoint, the chemo nurses and the radiation staff at the K.C. Cancer Center in Lee’s Summit for their excellent care.
