Durwood Arnold Ward, 79 years old, loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother died June 7, 2009 at his home in Independence surrounded by his family. Mr. Ward was born December 26, 1929 in Independence, Missouri to Arnold R. and Anna E. (Clark) Ward. He was baptized a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at Walnut Park Church in 1949. Later he attended East Alton and Village Heights Community of Christ. He graduated from William Chrisman High School 1947. He worked 50 plus years as a member of Sheet Metal Worker’s Local No. 2 and retired from Garrett Heating in 1990. He built a lake home in the 1970’s at Lake of the Ozarks and loved to fish and hunt. He and his wife also loved to travel and enjoyed several winters in Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, great-granddaughter, Macey Lynn Owens; and brothers-in-law, Bill Hostetter and Charles Hart. His survivors include his wife, Alice Marie (Hart) Ward of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Lee and Ron Palmer, Lee’s Summit, MO, Donna Kay and Ron Birdsall, Adrian, MI; and son and daughter-in-law, Larry Arnold and Diane Ward, Independence, MO; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and his sister, Alice Louise Hostetter, Blue Springs, MO. A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 a.m. with a service to follow at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 12, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO.
