Johnnie Lee Ward “Papa John” 49 of Independence, MO passed away, Monday, January 24, 2011 at his residence. The family will greet friends from 7 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday evening at the Carson-Speaks Chapel 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Services will be at 3:30 p.m., Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma, KS. Burial will follow in Sheffield Cemetery. Johnnie was born December 29, 1961 in Pittsburg, KS to Johnnie Joe and Beulah (Hull) Ward and has been a longtime Independence resident. He had worked in construction most of his life most recently for Pyramid Roofing. He enjoyed fishing, building model cars, babysitting his grandchildren and working on cars. He is survived by his mother Beulah Adkins of Independence, MO; 4 daughters, Samantha Ward of Kansas City, MO, Jessica Dean, Tiffanie Stevenson and Elisha Stevenson all of Independence, MO; 3 brothers, David Ward of Independence, MO, Chris Morris and Darryl Ward both of Lexington, MO; 3 sisters, Virginia Baker and Susan Ward of Independence, MO and Michelle Rodgers of St. Joseph, MO; 4 grandchildren, Damion Atwater, Lileeana Venegas, Reanna Dean and Mya Cannon.
