Joseph Kenneth Ward, of Independence, MO, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013. He was, born January 25th, 1925 to Pearl Marie (Inman) and Harry Ward. He was the oldest son of 12 children.
Preceded in death by parents and siblings: Mary E. Leutzinger (twin), Peggy L. Gouldsmith, Ruby Lee Olson, Helen E. Adkins, Ransom P. Ward, David H. Ward, V. Newton Ward, and his wife of 25 years (1948-1973) Leona Jean (Fenn) Ward. He is survived by siblings: Harry I. Ward, George W. Ward, Pearl M. Freeze, and Ruth Ann Thomas, and their children: David J. Ward (Karen), Kenneth E. Ward (Sharon), Craig B. Ward (Nanette), Deborah J. (Kent) Spiers, and Jeffery L. Ward (Becky).
Drafted into the U.S. Army following his high school graduation from William Chrisman in 1943, he served in Europe during World War II. He graduated from Graceland College in 1949 with a B.S. Degree in Agriculture. He earned an M.S. Degree in Education from Central Missouri State University 1965. For most of his career he was a science teacher. He lived his life devoted to his church (Elder in RLDS Church), his family, and his career.
He always had a smile and good word for family, friends, acquaintances, or anyone who encountered him. (Grandchildren: Steve and Joel Ward; Matt, Mark, Megan Garringer; Haley Ward; Jesse Wise; and Kai Lynne Ward. Great Grandchildren: Ainsley Ward; Drake Garringer; and Juno Ward).
Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th St. Independence, MO 65055. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday March 13, 2013 at the funeral home.
