Roy Wilburn Watson, 87 of Independence, MO, passed away, Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Donations in his name may be made to Kansas City Hospice or to the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Roy was born February 2, 1923 in Warrensburg, MO to Joseph Wilburn and Sallie Bell (Chiddix) Watson. He grew up in Independence and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1941. Following graduation he proudly served in the US Army during WWII from 1941-45. He then went to work for the Vendo Company in Independence from 1946 until 1976, when he took a job with the City of Independence and worked until he retired in 1989. He enjoyed hunting, swimming, boating and collecting guns, knives and coins. He was a member and former deacon of the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and VFW Post 1000, where he received a 10 year certificate for volunteering with the Lunch Partners. He was married to Mary L. Harrison on March 1, 1946 until she passed away on November 11, 2007. Survivors include; a daughter, Sharon Cummings and husband Dan of Colfax, IA; 2 sons, Alan Watson and wife Sheri of Lee’s Summit, MO and Russell Watson and wife Pam of Independence, MO; 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lena Livingston and a brother, Arthur Watson.
