Bettye Louise Weeks 77, Independence Mo., passed away Monday March 30, 2009 at the home. Services will be 10 am, Sat., April 4, 2009 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; cremation. Visitation will be 6 �" 8 pm, Friday at the funeral home.
Bettye was born October 12, 1931 in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Bettye moved to Kansas City in 1943 and graduated from Westport High School in 1949. Bettye met the love of her life Joseph O. Weeks in May of 1949 and they were married January 22,1950. Bettye and Joe shared 56 wonderful years together before Joe went home to be with the Lord in March of 2006. Bettye graduated from St Luke’s School of Nursing in 1973 and worked as LPN at several local hospitals until retiring in 1993 with Diabetes. Bettye was a member of the Sterling Avenue RLDS Church and was involved in her younger years with her husband Joe, teaching Sunday School, serving in VBS and as women’s leader. She also served as a den mother. Bettye loved music and singing. She sang in church choir and performed many solos and also sang with the Kansas City Light Opera Company. She was a member of the auditorium choir and participated in the Messiah Choir for 15 years. She loved gardening, her pets and traveling with her husband Joe in their RV. Most of all Bettye loved her family, especially her 4 boys. Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers Frank and Joseph, daughter Cheryl and son Timothy and her loving and devoted husband Joe.
Her survivors include 1 sister Gloria Bosworth of Overland Park, Ks. Four sons, David of the home, Robin and wife Susan, Don and wife Carol and Joseph Weeks JR and wife Lisa all of Independence; six grandchildren. Richard, April and husband Randy, Bryan, Brandi, Christopher, and Morgan as well as nine great-grandchildren.
