Elmer LeRoy Weiss, 88 years old, passed away on October 10th, 2015.
He was born in Independence, Missouri on March 29th, 1927 to Elmer Carl Weiss and LaVada Weiss. He grew up in Independence, attended William Chrisman High School and while there he was enrolled in R.O.T.C and achieved the rank of Captain of Company A. He was elected President of the Sophomore Class. He lettered in both football and basketball several years.
He went to work at the Independence, MO Post Office. He worked as a City Carrier, Clerk, Supervisor, Superintendent of Delivery and Collection, Superintendent of Mails and was promoted to Postmaster in 1975, retired in May 1989 after 46 years of service. He was a Baptist Church member where he became one of the first ordained Deacons by Birchwood Baptist Church in Independence. He taught Sunday School to high school aged people for over 20 years. He became a Lions Club member in 1975.
LeRoy is survived by son, Stuart Weiss, daughter LeeAnn Stevens, two step-sons, Scott Braley and Colin Braley, and granddaughter, Rosie Braley. He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Suzanne, father, mother and younger brother, James Michael Weiss.
Family suggests contributions to The Salvation Army or Lions Club.
A visitation will be held from 6-8pm Tuesday, October 13th and funeral service at 1pm on Wednesday, October 14th, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St in Independence.
