Wayne Welsh, 91, Independence, MO passed away June 26, 2011. Services will be 10 am, Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052; interment with Full Military Honors at Floral Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 – 8 pm, Wed at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions in Wayne’s name to the charity of your choice.
Wayne was born July 26, 1919 in Harrison County, MO. He graduated from Coffey High School in the Class of 1938. He served in the U.S. Army 281st Combat Engineer Battalion during WW II. He was the founder of Independence Rent-All Company, the first business of its kind in the Kansas City area. He owned and operated the business for forty years before retiring in 1984. He was a very active member of the Beverly Hills Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for over forty years, sang in the choir, had served as the chairman of finance, was a deacon for over forty years, served on the Deacon Board and was a church trustee for over twenty-five years. He also volunteered at Bryant Elementary School, and at Palmer Jr. High for eight years.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Rose Welsh, three brothers and four sisters. He is survived by sons Gary Welsh; Larry Welsh and wife Susan, all of Independence, MO; granddaughters Kelly Snyder and husband Brian, Lee’s Summit, MO; Lindsay Verbick and husband David, St. Joseph, MO; and great-grandchildren Tyler Snyder and Ryder Verbick.
