Mildred Lavon Wendleton, 91 of Independence, Mo passed away, Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011 at the Rehabilitation Center of Independence. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday. Aug. 12, 2011 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Friday at the chapel. Mildred was born February 4, 1920 in Harrisonville, MO to John F. and Lula May (Hewitt) Helt and graduated from Raymore High School in 1938. She was a devoted wife mother and homemaker who enjoyed making jewelry, sewing, cooking and canning and was know to be a card shark. She was a member of the Independence chapter of the Eastern Star. She was married to Lester Lloyd Wendleton, Sr. who preceded her in death in 2004. Survivors include; a daughter, Shirley Dillon and her husband Jim of Independence, MO; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Wendleton of Independence, MO; 4 grandchildren, Lee Wendleton, Lori Thompson, Christi Dillon and Amy Maggard and her husband Paul; 7 great grandchildren, Emily, Lucas, Dylan, Abby, Tanner, Kailey and Alyssa and her beloved dog Molly. She was preceded in death by a son, Lester Lloyd Wendleton, Jr. and 8 siblings. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of the Rehabilitation Center of Independence and Crossroads Hospice for their patient and loving care of Mildred in her final days.
