Ruth Wharton

July 26, 1931 — January 17, 2010

Ruth N. Wharton, 78, Independence, MO passed away Jan. 17, 2010 at her home. Services will be 2 pm, Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; interment Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 �" 8 pm, Wed. at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to Crossroads Hospice, 9237 Ward Pkwy., Ste. 300, K.C., MO 64114.
Ruth was born July 26, 1931 in Sleeper, MO and graduated from Lincoln (MO) High School in the Class of 1949. She worked at Percy Kent Bag Co. for over twenty-five years and retired in 1997. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Independence. She was a woman who loved her children, her grandchildren and all of her family. She loved to go camping, especially with Bob and Waneta Matney. She loved to watch her grandchildren’s ball games. No matter what the sport or the weather, you would find Ruth on the sidelines in her lawn chair cheering for a score and shouting encouragement.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Donald Lee Wharton; son Larry Lee Wharton; brothers Delmar Coffey, James Coffey, Rollen Coffey, Glenn Coffey and sister Emma Lou Griffith. She is survived by son Leon Wharton and wife Lori, Pleasant Hill, MO; daughter Brenda Butrum and husband Jeff, Blue Springs, MO; sisters Maxine Wiseman, Raytown, MO; Waneta Matney and husband Bob, Edgewood, WA; brother Gene Coffey and wife Barbara, Lincoln, MO; grandchildren Kyle, Whitney and Marissa Butrum; great-grandchild Kayden Butrum; and many nieces and nephews.
