Maxine Shipley Wheatley, 77, Independence, MO, formerly of Grand Junction, CO, passed away Feb. 9, 2008 after a short illness. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008 at The Gathering Place, 2820 S. 291 Hwy. Outer Road, Independence, MO. Cremation with interment scheduled at a later date at Grant City (MO) Cemetery.
Maxine was born in Isadora, MO on March 2, 1930 to Ivor Leroy and Edna Tolson Barker Shipley. She was the youngest of six children. After working for several years as a Lab Technician in various hospitals, Maxine married G. Dwight Wheatley on Sept. 1, 1963. They made their home in Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband.
Maxine is survived by four children: Joyce Lynn Wheatley, Grand Junction, CO; Christina Gayle Wheatley, Independence, MO; Dwight Earl Wheatley and family, Winton, CA; Cynthia Lea Wheatley and family, Parachute, CO; brother Jay Shipley and wife Ilene, Grant City, MO; sister Leota Batt and husband Marvin, Glendora, CA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law including Warren and Virginia Wheatley; Harold and Shirley Wheatley, all of Warrensburg, MO; Mary Lou and Klydel Miller, Independence, MO; Carol and Paul Sawyer, Lee’s Summit, MO; Milda and Robert Edson, Branson, MO; and a number of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Maxine, along with daughter Chris, moved to Independence, MO in May of 2007 where they made their home. Maxine was a member of the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Independence. She was baptized into the church in 1951. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
