Jane Whetstone (Smith)

Jane Whetstone, of Independence, MO passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2022. She was 100 years old. A gathering of friends and family will take place at 10am on Saturday, September 24th at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E 39th St.; Independence, MO 64055. Entombment will follow at Mound Grove Mausoleum in Independence; MO.

Jane was born on March 19, 1922, in Jameson, MO to Clayton and Esta (Ipsen) Smith. She attended high school in Jameson before marrying her husband, Maynard Whetstone. Together, they made a house a home and raised four children. Jane loved playing baseball and volleyball when she was younger and then enjoyed involvement in bowling leagues throughout adulthood. She also loved to travel, whether it was with Maynard, or with the kids after he passed away in 1987.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Launius of Independence, Charles “Bob” (Teresa) Whetstone of Oak Grove, Michael (Danya) Whetstone of Springfield and Jeff (Karen) Whetstone of Independence; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 6 great, great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Maynard Whetstone; 1 grandchild and 3 siblings.
