Elma D. “Deanie” Whitehead, 85, Independence, MO passed away June 7, 2011. Services will be private. The family requests contributions to The Groves Hospice, 1415 W. White Oak, Independence, MO 64050.
Deanie was born Jan. 20, 1926 in Rich Hill, MO and graduated from Rich Hill High School. She worked at Sears for thirty-three and a half years before retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Enoch Hill Congregation, now known as the Cornerstone Congregation Community of Christ, where she sang in the choir and was a frequent volunteer. She was awarded the Congregation Community Service Award in recognition of her work. She loved baking and decorating cakes for special occasions and donated all her proceeds from that to the church building fund. She also enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens.
Deanie was preceded in death by her husband Louis N. Whitehead in 1997. She is survived by daughter Vicky Cain and husband Steve, Kansas City North, MO; sister Vi Pfeiffer and husband William, Sherman, TX; grandchildren Sara Dorrian and husband Kurt, Liberty, MO; Emily Bornheimer and husband Chris; Bethany Cain; Bradley Cain, all of Kansas City North, MO; great-grandchildren Rylee & Brinley Bornheimer and Emma Dorrian.
