Julia Beryl Kirk Whitehead, of Independence, MO, age 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 25th 2009. Her husband of 71 years led the reunion, which included her father, mother, step-father, 2 sisters, an aunt, a son-in-law, and a grandson.
Julia was born on March 31, 1920 in Davis City, Iowa to Wilbert and Leila Kirk. She graduated from Lamoni, Iowa in 1938. That same year she met and married Harold Elden Whitehead, who was working for The Dairy Farm at Graceland College. Harold was Julia’s lifelong love and companion.
Harold and Julia were blessed with two daughters, Karen Anne Graham and Linda Lee Hickey, who loved and adored their mother, along with 7 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Julia was employed by the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital. She first served in the dietary department until she became a Medical Records Technician at the age of 39. When Julia took the exam to become certified for this, her score was the highest in the entire nation. She worked at the hospital until her retirement in the late 1980’s.
Julia and Harold gathered to Independence in 1951. On June 9th, 1940 she was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Julia remained a faithful handmaiden of the Lord all her earthly days. She was so very much loved and will be so very missed.
A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 27 and a memorial service will take place at 4 pm on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Eden Heights Community of Christ Church, 1301 E. Sea Ave., Independence, MO.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Kansas City Hospice.
