Joe Amon Wilbanks, 84, of Independence, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2013 at his residence.
Cremation was selected with no services planned at this time. Memorial contributions are suggested to Heartland Hospice. Joe was born on May 5, 1929 in Marion County, AR, the son of Elonzo and Eula (Due) Wilbanks. Joe graduated from Gainesville High School. He joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged on May 5, 1953. He had worked at JMJ Truck Lines as a dispatcher until his retirement. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, playing guitar and gospel music.
He was united in marriage on November 8, 1985, in Raytown to the love of his life Davalene Sater who resides at the home in Independence.
He is survived by: five daughters, Teresa Mast, Enid, OK; Cherly File, Kansas City, KS; Gwendolyn Davis, Overland Park, KS; Janell Ryan, Kent, OH; and Kathy Bond, Kansas City, KS; one son, Vada Wilbanks and his wife Amy, Independence; one brother, Burl Wilbanks and wife Corkey, Owasso, OK; 17 grandchildren and multiple great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Loretta Parker; and one son-in-law, Philip Mast, two sister, Faithe Griffin and Elzetta Betts.
