Charles Rex Wildermuth, 89, passed away March 28, 2015, in Independence, MO.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 6, 2015, at 10:00am, at Good Shepard Congregation Community of Christ, 4341 Blue Ridge Blvd., KCMO, 64133. Family will greet friends an hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military honors will follow the funeral at Mound Grove Cemetery.
Rex was born on June 13, 1925, in Plano, IL, to Charles and Doris (Barnes) Wildermuth. He joined the Navy in 1943, serving in the South Pacific as a Gunner in the Armed Guard. He was part of the Carrier Task Force that liberated the Philippines in WWII. Rex was honorably discharged in 1946. When he returned home, he attended and graduated from Graceland, and moved to Independence, MO.
He worked for Vendo Company for many years, as well as Lake City, and the Kansas City Auto Auction. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and also an ordained Deacon in the RLDS Church. Rex loved to square dance and take his motorboat out on the lake for a cruise. He was a skilled ambidextrous bowler, and was a member of many bowling leagues.
He is survived by his brother, Blair (Marian) Wildermuth; sister, Elsa (Russ) Kominitsky; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Helene Mae Coleman.
