George F. Wildschuetz, 88, Independence, MO passed away Monday, February 02, 2009 at Carmel Hills Living Center.
George was born March 24, 1920 in Buckner, MO the son of Fred and Merle (Risinger) Wildschuetz. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and served aboard the USS Comfort Hospital Ship in New Guinea. George had worked for the Polly’s Pop in Independence and was a route driver for Independence Laundry. He retired from Century 21 selling real estate for a number of years. George was a member of the Teamsters Union and the St. Luke’s United Church of Christ. He was a lifetime member of the Tirey J. Ford American Legion Post #21, where he had served as Past Commander and Financial Officer. George enjoyed playing bingo, fishing, and woodworking and he was an avid sports fan.
He married Dorothy Knapheide on Oct. 11, 1942 in St. Louis, MO, she survives of the home. Additional survivors include his sons, Carl Wildschuetz and his wife Mary of Oak Grove; Robert Wildschuetz and his wife Betsy of Florissant; and Paul Wildschuetz and his wife Kathy of Blue Springs. Daughter in law, Sharon Wildschuetz of Lake Worth, FL. 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brother, Charles Wildschuetz of Springfield and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Harvey Wildschuetz and his parents.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, 727 N. Main, Independence, MO. 64050. Burial at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm, Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
