Willard Eugene Ruggles passed away unexpectedly on May 31, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on December 11, 1960, in Peoria, Illinois to Roger Ellison and Donna Mae (Hughes) Ruggles.
For over 22 years, Willard worked as a maintenance repair worker at Space Center, now known as Link Industries. He was known for his strong work ethic and his commitment to his duties, earning the respect of his colleagues.
In his personal life, Willard was a proud husband to Diane Marie Ray, with whom he shared more than 35 years of commitment before they married in October of 2023. Together, they built a life filled with love and mutual respect. Willard was a devoted member of the Stone Church in Independence, Missouri, where he found community and fellowship. His passions extended beyond his work and family, as he had a deep love for music, particularly jazz and blues, which resonated through his home. Willard was also an avid nature lover, taking great pleasure in caring for the animals that visited his backyard.
Willard leaves behind his loving family: his father, Roger Ellison Ruggles of Alamo, TX; his brothers, Kevin Dwayne Ruggles of Fayette, MO and David Leroy Ruggles of Alamo, TX; his sister, Joyce Lynn Ruggles of Washington, IL; stepsons, Steven Ray of Kansas City, MO and Sean Ray of Kansas City, MO; stepdaughter, Amber Morton of Artisa, NM; and step grandchildren, Kyle Ray of Kansas City, MO, Andrew Ray of Kansas City, MO, and Kayla Dollard of St. Joseph, MO. He is preceded in death by his mother, Donna Mae Ruggles.
Willard Eugene Ruggles will forever be remembered for his kindness, his love for his family, and his contributions to the lives of those around him. His presence will be deeply missed but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
