William Marvin "Bill" Harbaugh

November 20, 1931 — July 1, 2024

William Marvin "Bill" Harbaugh, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2024, in his hometown of Independence, Missouri. He was 92 years old. Bill was born on November 20, 1931 to Glenn and Dorothy Harbaugh.

After graduating from William Chrisman high school, Bill dedicated himself to proudly serving in the United States Army for several years. Following his military service, he pursued a career as a meat cutter in various local grocery stores within the Kansas City area.

His life was marked by his dedication to his work, but beyond that, Bill found solace and happiness in the little things that brought him joy. He had a passion for traveling, enjoyed swimming at the YMCA, and cherished the time spent tending to his garden blooming with plants and roses. His green thumb was evident to all who visited his home.

Bill's proudest accomplishments centered around his family. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones and took immense pride in their achievements. He was known to be a simple and quiet man with a heart full of compassion and love for his family.

Bill led a humble yet remarkable life that touched the hearts of all who knew him. The family would like to especially thank the staff at Monterey Park nursing home for taking such good care of their beloved dad, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. The “straw man’s” legacy will always remain.

As friends and family gather to honor Bill's memory, visitation will take place on July 10th from 6-8pm followed by a funeral service on July 11th at 10am at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri. The burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens.

Bill is survived by his children, William “Todd” Harbaugh, Leigh Herrman (Tim) and Michael E. Harbaugh; grandchildren, Tiffany Harbaugh, James Herrman, Jeremy Herrman and Jessica McGuire (Kirby); brother, Harold Harbaugh; 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings and grandson, Michael Harbaugh II.
