William E. Hirst, lovingly known as Pete passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, in Lee's Summit, Missouri, at the age of 79. Born on April 27, 1946, in Independence, Missouri, he lived a life characterized by dedication, service, and love for his family.
After graduating from William Chrisman High School, Pete pursued a career that reflected his commitment to community and country. He spent 17 years as the water pollution control supervisor for the city of Independence, where he was respected for his contributions to public health and safety. Prior to that, he devoted 20 years to the United States Air Force, where he served as an airplane mechanic. His service was characterized by pride, diligence, and a deep sense of responsibility.
In addition to his career, Pete had various interests that brought him joy. He was passionate about working on vehicles and woodworking, investing countless hours in home repairs and improvements. His adventurous spirit led him to enjoy road trips, particularly visits to Louisiana to reconnect with old friends.
One of Pete's proudest accomplishments was his daughter, Helen. He dedicated his life to caring for and raising her, he was a devoted father. His love was evident in all that he did, shaping a bond that will forever be remembered.
Pete will be remembered for his lighthearted demeanor, and kindness that touched all who knew him. He leaves a legacy of love and laughter and cherished memories.
Pete is survived by his daughter, Helen Hirst; grandson, Austin Hirst; granddaughter, Makenna; great-grandson, Issac; sister, MaVoy Hirst and beloved furry companion, Harley.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Jack Hirst and Anita Hirst; and parents, William and Helen (Bates) Hirst.
A visitation will be held on February 3, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Carson-Speaks Chapel located at 1501 W Lexington Ave, Independence, MO 64052. Following the visitation, burial services will take place at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. at 1:00 PM.
