He was born on April 23, 1946, in Independence, Missouri, to William and Cora Lee Sooter. After graduating from high school, Jack pursued his passion for art and obtained his bachelor's degree in commercial arts from the University of Central Missouri. This achievement brought him immense pride and satisfaction throughout his life. As he earned his degree, Jack worked diligently as a switchman and later as a conductor for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. His dedication to his career not only allowed him to excel in his field, but also led him to form lifelong friendships which endured long after retirement. It was a testament to his character he continued meeting his friends for lunch every Wednesday, showcasing the importance he placed on relationships and camaraderie. Jack's personality was a beacon of kindness and tranquility. Known for his unwavering calm demeanor and friendly nature, he had a special ability to strike up conversations with anyone he met and forge connections effortlessly. His generous spirit and selfless attitude endeared him to all who crossed his path, always prioritizing the needs of others above his own. Outside of work, Jack indulged in various hobbies which brought him joy and fulfillment. Whether it was immersing himself in books, managing investments, dabbling in painting with a talent for portraits, or exploring art museums and antique shops, Jack had a diverse range of interests which spoke to his creative soul. He shared a beautiful bond with his grandson through their mutual love for art. Among all his accomplishments, Jack was a devoted father to his boys and a loving grandfather to his grandsons, which he held closest to his heart. His family meant everything to him, especially his cherished wife, Jo; they were not just partners but best friends who navigated life's journey together hand in hand.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Jo; his sons, Will, Aaron (Miranda), and Keith; his grandsons, Grant and Calvin; his siblings, Richard (Patricia) Sooter, Beverly (David) Thieme, Debbie (David) Hatton, and Carolyn (Chuck) Griva; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
