William Lewis Murphy

William Lewis “Bill” Murphy of Independence, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the age of 87 years. He was born on November, 4, 1938, in Bonne Terre, Missouri, to Floyd and Hazel (Dickemann) Murphy.

Bill found comfort in the peace and solace of the great outdoors. He enjoyed pheasant hunting and spending time at Tablerock lake fishing. He was also an avid bowler and enjoyed the camaraderie of league play.

Family remained at the center of Bill’s life. Together with his late wife, Willa, he helped shape the lives of many young people through their dedication as Boy Scout leaders. Their influence was keenly felt, especially by their boys, who were not only guided in scouting but were also introduced to the crafts that Bill himself enjoyed. Woodworking and quilting, skills which Bill shared patiently with his children, became opportunities for storytelling, laughter, and lasting memories.

Bill is survived by his sons, Audie Murphy (Lisa) and Ronald “Ron” Murphy; sister, Mary Belle Murphy; brother, Dale Murphy; 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

He’s preceded in death by beloved wife, Willa; his brothers, Wayne and Arlen Murphy and his parents, Floyd and Hazel Murphy.
