William George Remy Jr., affectionately known as Bill, passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord and loved ones that preceded him on October 3, 2025, in Independence, Missouri. He was born on December 11, 1949, in Burlington, Kansas, to George and Betty Jo Remy, the eldest of six children. Bill was known throughout his life to have a strong passion for animals, the great outdoors, golfing, and photography. One of his greatest joys was casting a fishing line alongside his beloved grandchildren. Bill was a good-humored man of quick wit, always having a joke- at times crude-to make others laugh.
Bill belonged to a miliary family that moved across the US, igniting another interest in travel. He attended grade school in Kansas and Colorado; graduating from Balboa High School in Panama. His commitment to service and sense of honor led him to proudly serve in the United States Air Force where he promoted to fuel + cryogenics specialist. Throughout his career, Bill explored several paths, yet the role he cherished most was as a conservation specialist with Burr Oak Woods. In this capacity, he combined his professional skills with his lifelong love for the environment, contributing to the preservation of nature that he held so dear. Even outside of his professional life, Bill found peace and perspective enjoying time spent outdoors. Next to an avid lover of nature, Bill shared a deep connection with his animal companions, known to travel with a trusted canine by his side
Bill's passing is preceded by his parents, William G. “George” Remy Sr. and Betty Jo (Meek) Remy, and his siblings, Mike Remy and Renee Remy. His legacy lives on through his son, Landon Smith (Krista); his grandchildren, Miles, Jamison, Trillian, and Callan Smith; his siblings, Kevin +family, Terry + family, and Candy +family; niece, Stephanie Remy; and four-legged companion, Ace.
A visitation will be held in honor of Bill on October 24, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM at Speaks Suburban Chapel, located at 18020 East 39th St S, Independence, MO 64055. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas at 12:30 PM.
