Dale G. Williams, 76, of Blue Springs, MO passed away January 30, 2013. A memorial visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kansas City Hospice House. A celebration of Dale’s life will also be held at 5:00 p.m. at Fort Osage High School. Dale was born September 19, 1936 to Ina May (DeNoon) and Guy Newton Williams in Bonner Springs, KS. He graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1954 and was a four year letterman in football at Baker University, where he graduated in 1958. He started his coaching career at Piper High in 1966. He then went to Hanover High, both in Kansas. He met his first wife, Carol Elaine Hupe, while teaching at Piper. They had two children, Robert Hillman Williams and Sheri Anne Williams. He moved to Missouri in 1971 to teach psychology and coach boy’s basketball at North Kansas City High School. While there, he started the girls basketball program in 1975 and continued coaching countless numbers of young ladies, until he retired from Fort Osage High School in 2007. He also spent two years (1985-1987) at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa where he coached women’s basketball. He received many honors during those thirty-some years of women’s basketball, which include: 12 time conference Coach of the Year, 2 time Independence Examiner Coach of the Year, 94-95 Kansas City Sports Connection Coach of the Year, Greater Kansas City Basketball Association Hall of Fame, Baker University Hall of Fame and Missouri State Sports Hall of Fame. Dale loved coaching women’s basketball. In his own words, “I have had the privilege of coaching and working with some of the most fantastic females that are on the face of this earth. It’s been so much fun.” Although, it’s a sad day for the basketball community, no one feels the loss more than his family. Dale is survived by one daughter, Sheri Williams; one son, Bob Williams; and two grandchildren, Daniel and Luana Williams.
