John "Pappy" Williams, 85, a longtime resident of Independence, Missouri, passed from this life April 19, 2013.
Pappy was born February 23, 1928 to Floyd Williams and Ruth Tabscott Williams in Laclede, Missouri. In 1943 his family moved to Kansas City Missouri where he eventually graduated Manuel High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in January of 1945 and served 4 years as a Ground Radar Control man. His tour of duty took him to places such as New York City, Orlando Florida, and Shanghai, China.
After the Navy Jack attended and graduated from Atlas Trade School in St. Louis, Missouri with a rating in diesel mechanics. In 1952 Jack began his career with Remington Arms at Lake City Arms in Independence Mo. He retired after 32 years of service.
Some of Pappy’s favorite pass times through out the years have included road trips to visit family and friends with Granny (and recently with Bob Wolfe), going to garage sales, fishing, clock building, and last but not least “aggravating” his “adopted/extended” family at Rosie’s Diner and Englewood Cafe.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Ethel "Granny" Williams. Survivors include brothers Galen Williams of Memphis, Tennessee, Jerry Williams of Decatur, Illinois, and Fred Williams of Munford, Tennessee his children and spouses; Mike &Cindy Williams of Independence Missouri, Fred & Karen Williams of Missouri, Patti & Price Pepper of Alabama, Ron & Jane Wolfe of Sarasota Florida, Bob & Paula Wolfe of Houston Texas; many grandchildren great grandchildren and many, many friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m. at the Carson Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, Missouri 64052. Burial will follow at Mound Grove Cemetery.
