Edna Frances Cruzan was born April 10, 1911 in Denver, CO to Charles E. Cruzan and Frances Ainsworth Cruzan. She passed away at Rosewood Health Center in Independence, MO on Monday, August 9, 2010 at 99 years of age.
Edna grew up in Denison, Crawford County, Iowa and attended public school there, graduating with the class of 1929. On July 10, 1933, she married Byron Lloyd Winans of Deloit, IA, in Independence, MO. After their marriage they resided in Denison where Lloyd was employed at the Red and White Store. In 1943 they moved to Kansas City, KS where Lloyd worked at the North American Bomber Plant and then became a custodian for the Kansas City, KS, School System until his retirement. They moved to Independence, MO in 1981. Edna enjoyed playing the piano and organ and used this talent to assist with the music at her church, The Church of Christ With The Elijah Message. She was a very unique and special person and her mind remained clear, enabling her to relay her memories of almost 100 years of life.
Edna had one son, Stephen Michael Winans who resides in Ottawa, KS. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, a sister, Mrs. Edith Cruzan Baughman, and a baby sister. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2010 at the Salem Cemetery, 1823 North Blue Mills Road, Independence, MO, with Evangelist Carl W. VunCannon, Jr. officiating.
