Melba Winfrey, 82, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center. A service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 30 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; burial to follow at Six Mile Cemetery.
Melba was born August 2, 1926 in Independence to Frank and Muriel Winfrey, the youngest of three girls. She graduated from Buckner High School and attended college at Union College in Lincoln, NE. She taught at an elementary school in Tennessee before returning to Missouri to care for her parents. Melba was a lifelong faithful member of the Independence Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Melba was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ruth Helen Johnson. She is survived by her sister Doris Blank of Independence; and two nephews: Terry Blank of Overland Park, KS and Ron Blank of Edgewater, FL.
