James "Bob" Wingate

September 10, 1927 — March 11, 2005

James R. "Bob� Wingate, 77, Edwards, MO passed away March 10, 2005 at the Lee�s Summit Hospital. A visitation will be held from 9-9:45 a.m. on Monday, March 14, at St. Mary�s Catholic Church, Independence, MO. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the church, with burial at Lee�s Summit Historical Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or St. Mary�s Catholic Church. Bob was born September 10, 1927 in Kansas City, KS to Henry and Goldie Wingate. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in occupied Japan after WWII. Bob spent 24 years on the Independence Police force, retiring as Sgt. in 1988. He will always be known as a man with a big heart, who was very loving and quick witted. Bob loved the outdoors, and spent many of his last years on the lake fishing. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Eugene and Gerald Wingate. He is survived by his wife, Helen Wingate; son, Scott Wingate; daughter, Jamie Scheibach and husband Michael; step-daughter, Carolyn Lawson and husband Larry; sisters, Opal Reed, Joyce Peoples, Marilyn Honeyball and husband Forest, Carol Boothman and husband Bob; brothers, Jack and Larry Wingate; grandchildren, Jessica Scheibach, Joshua Kittinger, Connor Wingate, Kelsey Wingate, Amy Poe, Kelly Curtis and Sarah Lawson; and numerous favorit nieces and nephews.
